The Fox Den is part of three exclusive wee lodges making up The Secret Hideaway, a private lakeside retreat sat at the foot of the Pentland Hills just 20mins from Edinburgh. The incredible views, total tranquility and idyllic location make this the ultimate getaway. Each wee lodge has its own private Scandinavian hot tub, underfloor heating, wireless mobile phone charging, bluetooth sound system, its own private deck with table and chairs, and many more cutting edge features.
In close proximity are many fabulous walks, cycle rides and attractions, including a handful of local restaurants and cafes to enjoy during your stay. We are located right at the foot of the Pentland Hills, and just a short drive away you will find many more places to explore including the beaches of East Lothian, City of Edinburgh and the rolling countryside of The Scottish Borders.
The Secret Hideaway is nestled next to The Glencorse Old Kirk which dates back to the 17th century. Scottish writer Robert Louis Stephenson famously worshiped there, and indeed wrote about the Kirk and its woodland setting on a number of occasions. The Old Kirk has even featured in the world famous Outlander TV Series, providing the setting for characters Claire and Jamie to tie the knot in Season 1.
Guests will have access to the private lake and the grounds that surround it. There is a small parking area by the lake for direct access to the wee lodges. There is a bus stop (10 min walk) outside the Glencorse Golf Club with busses for Penicuik, Edinburgh, Straiton Retail Park and The Borders stopping fairly regularly. For best access and ease of getting around the local area we recommend guests have access to a car.
Access and tours of Glencorse Kirk can be made by prior appointment.
The Fox Den is located in a wonderfully secluded location albeit with many attractions and shopping facilities nearby. It is an ideal bolt hole if you want to visit Edinburgh and stay in the nearby countryside or visit local attractions such as Rosslyn Chapel, Dalkeith Country Park and the Restoration Yard with many other attractions nearby. Being located next to the Pentland Hills you have on the hand the most wonderful walks and mountain bike trails.
Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote, "If my spirit returns to earth it will be found wandering through the Glencorse Woods or sitting on the old bridge at Glencorse Kirk, the finest spot on earth."
Robert Louis Stevenson
We are located only 20 minutes drive from central Edinburgh and only 5 minutes from the City Bypass. There is also a bus stop 10 minutes walk away with buses running from Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
